I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned “On Thud and Blunder” until now. So, for those of you who don’t know, “On Thud and Blunder” is an essay by Poul Anderson, an author I quite like and who was an inspiration for The Song of Morien. Long before I even had an inkling of writing Morien, I knew I wanted to write a fantasy book that addressed the points made in that essay. And once I had the plot and themes of Morien in mind, I decided to have Morien encounter each and every one of those points in a comedic way.
